One of the most important factors I take into consideration when buying adult diapers is how they perform when it comes to chafing. No matter how absorbent or cute or whatever the diaper is, if it is going to cause chafing then I am most likely not going to use it. I am a very active person and I cannot afford to have chaff problems on my crotch and butt area all the time. Most diapers do OK with not chafing until they are wet. Wet diapers are the epitome of causing chafing problems because that added moisture against your skin plus the continual rubbing of plastic or cloth will cause chafing. So, below are some of my “facts” and tips that I have developed to get a diaper that does not chaff (as much).

Buy adult diapers that do not sag very much when they are wet. Adult diapers have to be supportive, hence why most adult diapers have either 4 or 6 tapes on the diaper because they are there to hold up the diaper and provide support from sagging. In addition, other factors that help prevent sagging in diapers is the core of the diaper. If the core of the diaper is made up good compacted material then it will also help support the diaper from sagging. One of the main reasons besides the features and absorbency that Bambino Diapers are my main diaper is because no matter how much I wet them, they never seem to sag on me that bad. Hence, no chafing! Sagging is one of the number one causes of chafing with adult diapers because the further it sags down, the more its going to rub on your legs and cause chafing.

Buy adult diapers that do not have a clammy feel on the outside of the diaper when wet. Cheaply made adult diapers do not use premium plastic material and instead go for cost-saving plastic materials that do not contain moisture as well. Have you ever wet a diaper and could feel on the outside of the diaper that moisture feel…hard to describe…but, it is like you can almost feel the wetness through the outside of the diaper. You want to try to avoid diapers like these. Preferably, use diapers that use premium materials when making their adult diapers.

Overall, chafing can come down to a lot of things including your body shape, the way you walk, how much you walk, when you walk, how you put the diaper on, how tight it is, etc. But, there are certain things you can do when it comes to buying the correct adult diaper to minimize chafing. But, try a few diapers out and see how it goes. In NO PARTICULAR ORDER, these are the diapers that I recommend that I have found to be good at minimizing chafing:

Bambino Diapers

Abena X-Plus

Tranquility (not very absorbent but have a good fit too them)

Depends (probably the worst absorbency but never had issues with chafing)

Secure X-Plus

This post is going to be a list because I wanted to share some tips and tricks that I think may help some of the ABDL community. I am sure many of you already know some of these but I figured I would list them out:

Pick an adult diaper with a waistband because it really helps to prevents leaks and hugs the diaper closer to your body making it more comfortable.

Take the adult diapers out of the plastic bags they come in to allow them to expand. When the diapers are in the plastic bags, they are compressed, so take them out and allow them to expand so they are more flexible and softer.

When putting on an adult diaper, make the two top tapes tighter than the two bottom tapes. The top tapes of the diaper will make the diaper tighter but the looser bottom tapes will still be secure but allow the flexibility of the legs.

Always pick an adult diaper with standing leg cuffs as this is the single most important thing in a diaper in preventing leaks. You may be surprised how many adult diapers do not come with this important feature.

Change your diaper no later than 1 hour after a super wet diaper and 30 minutes after a poopy diaper. These are the time restrictions I try to adhere to because otherwise I notice I may begin to chaff.

Always put powder on the inside areas of your crotch and on the inside of the diaper. This will help keep you cool but also prevent rubbing and chaffing.

Pay attention to price per diaper in regards to buying diapers to make sure you are getting the best deal if you are watching your budget.

Buy your diapers online and in bulk to reduce costs. Buy diapers in cases from reputable dealers to get the best price. (i.e. Bambino Diapers, XP Medical, Secure Personal Care, etc)

Wear plastic pants to help reduce the smell of a poopy diaper if you are in a public area.

If you are a woman, position diaper doubler/boosters more towards the seat and back of the diaper to maximize absorbency. If you are a man, position the diaper doubler/booster more towards the front of the diaper to maximize absorbency.

Hopefully, some of these tips helped you out or at least reinforced some concepts that really can help you not only maximize your diaper use but also save you money in the process.

Boosters are often looked over when considering things to buy when you are either forced to wear diapers or just enjoy wearing diapers for the fun of it. But, boosters can provide a lot of benefit for both groups of people if the correct booster is chosen. The design of a booster is simple but the effect a booster can have is immense. They can take an ordinary diaper and make it super absorbent or they can give you that extra padding that so many people love the feeling of.

An adult diaper is designed to only hold a certain amount of liquid and that amount of liquid varies highly across all the diaper brands. Some adult diapers can barely manage to hold one wetting before they leak while others such as the premier Bambino Diapers, Secure X-Plus, or Abena can hold multiple wettings. For those people who depend on adult diapers to keep them from leaking and want to save a little money in the long run, boosters are for you. A booster, if chosen properly, can take ANY diaper and make it last twice or three times as long if used properly. In the end, this adds to the life of the diaper and thus giving you an extension of time before one needs to change their diaper.

Many people, especially adult babies and diaper lovers, love the feeling of extra padding, especially if that padding is in the butt/seat area of the diaper. If you like that feeling, a booster is definitely the answer because it provides instant padding that not only increases absorbency of the diaper but also gives you that nice padded feeling in the seat region of the diaper that many people love.

Choosing a booster for an adult diaper can actually be quite meticulous and should be chosen with care. There are some boosters out there that are fairly absorbent but are super uncomfortable. Watch out for those because though they will provide you with added absorbency BUT, they can cause chaffing issues in that region and discomfort which nobody wants. Here are my recommendations for the best boosters you can buy:

1. Bambino Quadro: This booster is the top-dog of all boosters. It is extremely helpful in preventing people who leak from the sides while sleeping or out of the back of their diaper. This booster completely stops all that. It is the best booster money can buy. Plus, this booster is made with a special material to give it a super soft feeling that most diapers can’t even compare to.

2. Bambino Duo: This booster is probably the second best booster on the market. It can absorb more than 90% of diapers on the market can by themselves so you can imagine sticking one of these booster in your diaper and how long you can last. Plus, they are also made with Bambino’s super soft material so there is NO chaffing or discomfort.

3. Tranquility Topliner Booster Pad: This booster is a very well designed booster with a good absorbency that is one of the better ones on the market. Because the material is not as soft as the two above and the absorbency is significantly less…this gets the #3 spot but it is still a good booster to use.

4. Depend Boost Inserts: These are the most popular just because they are the most well known because they are in most grocery stores. The only reason they are on this list is because they are actually decent feeling as far as the material but the absorbency is not very good. If you are looking for really good absorbency, I would go with another booster such as the Bambino Quadro or Duo.

There you have it…those are my choices of my favorite boosters that I have used. I have both the Bambino Quadro and Duo taking up at least one whole decent size shelf and a few extra packs in storage. That is how important I find boosters. They not only save me money but also they can allow you to go a lot longer in between diaper changes especially if you get one of the better boosters.

Obviously, wearing diapers all day, everyday, one is bound to lose the “specialness” in wearing a diaper and all the joy it can bring. That is wear new and exciting things come into play to keep things fresh. It is very important I think to make small changes, add new things, modify things, etc. in your life with regards to diapers to keep things new and refreshing. Now there are only so many things new you can try with a diaper but here are some of my suggestions for what we do to keep things growing in regards to diapers and exciting:

Take Photos: Taking photos in diapers whether it is with clothes on or off is absolutely essential I think in keeping things fresh. Its nice to have a photo or even a video record of what you looked like. Then, you can share the photos with close friends or others. Or, you can just keep them for yourself to look at or share them with your spouse.

Buy New Clothes: If you can afford it, buying new clothes that will look good while wearing a diaper or good for pictures can spice things up a bit. For me, in the summer, buying a new mini skirt or workout shorts. You see the angle I am getting at?

Tweak Diaper Changes: Make some changes in how you go about getting changed whether you change yourself or someone else changes you. Peter likes to every once in awhile throw a curve ball into where he changes my diaper in our place. There are so many options: the floor, the bed, couch, etc.

Talk to Others: Conversate with others that wear diapers or make some friends. This can not only be good for your social life but also keep things new and refreshing in the diaper “realm”. Obviously, this can prove difficult if you don’t live near anyone that is around your age that you feel comfortable talking with but there is always talking online to people.

Add Things To Your Night Out: So when you wear a diaper out and whether you are by yourself or with someone else. Add some new things such as maybe your partner or friend will check your diaper while you are out or you can check yourself. Don’t do anything completely crazy or absurd but minor things that won’t completely creep out the public. A quick diaper check will at most leave a person curious and probably just assume you have some sort medical condition. So, add a few tweaks to your night out to spice things up.

There are obviously a lot more things you can do to keep things new and refreshing but these happen to be the main ones that we try to do to make sure diapers never become a “going through the motion” type of experience. They are a big part of our lives and we want to make the best of it.

I know I do not post much in regards to this topic but I wanted to shed some light on a topic/dilemma that is sometimes even hard for me just in terms of the work required and materials used…even as experienced as I am. So, I was changing Peter’s poopy diaper yesterday and I swear it took me like the whole package of wipes to clean him up and it really required a lot of work. Now, I know adult’s messes are a lot bigger than babies but I guess I feel like there should be an easier and more convenient method for cleaning him up. His messes are sometimes just so big I guess that I feel like I am more just “smearing it” around then I am actually wiping it up. I mean, here I am holding up his legs for like 10 minutes or so while I wipe him which I know is uncomfortable him after a point. I know its probably easier to use a wet washcloth to wipe him first but I will say that is not always convenient. So, I am looking for some tips that anyone is willing to share in this matter as I just want to be able to change his pooped diapers a bit easier because its not only a lot of work for me but also it gets uncomfortable for him having his legs raised for that long while I clean him up.

I have always been pretty experienced with changing messy diapers whether it is Peter or when I have babysat. But, I guess I got to thinking there must be something I could do thats easier or more convenient OR even something maybe Peter could do to make it easier when he does mess. I don’t know – I am pretty open and all ears for those who are even more crafty and experienced than me.

So, I am finally back and this will be my first post back after my family issue thingy. Sorry everyone – I just have been so crazy busy and tied up with things that posting was sort of out of the question.

I thought I would make my first post on something one of my readers have asked me. How do you change a diaper in an airplane and contain the smell?

Wearing a diaper and changing a diaper in an airplane is handled I would say in the same manner you would any tight space or close-quartered area. If you wet your diaper on an airplane and it isn’t at risk of leaking then see if you are able to wait until the plane lands – it would just be easier in general to change your diaper in an airport bathroom for obvious reasons. If you are on a long flight though and have no choice and need to change your wet diaper then just take a diaper out of where ever you have it stored – don’t look suspicious though – just act like it is not a big deal. Especially on a plane you don’t want to be pulling anything out of a bag and look suspicious if you catch my drift. So, some tips for changing your diaper in an airplane bathroom would be to bring a pull-up to last you the rest of the way if you think it will be able to hold. A pull-up is a lot easier to put on then a diaper is and less time consuming. But, if all you have is diapers then just put the diaper on while sitting down if there is a space in that particular airplane bathroom…it is way easier than trying to stand up and changing. But, if you have to change your diaper standing up just use the wall to brace yourself against to provide some leverage so you don’t go swaying everywhere.

When it comes to messy and poopy diapers – I would suggest some pre-planning for this, which is what I have always done. If you are a person that does poop their diapers then changing in an airplane will prove extremely difficult. I would HIGHLY suggest first putting a lot of powder inside your diaper before you get on the plane and make sure the diaper is tight around the edges so the smell has less space to come out. Then, make sure to put on a good pair of plastic pants or even two of them which will immensely help contain the smell and keep it inside your pants. Also, wear a good perfume/cologne which will help mask anything that does get out. This is what I have always done and never run into many issues. If you absolutely have to change a poopy diaper in an airplane bathroom then make sure you brought your own baby wipes and a lot of them. Brace your legs against the sides of the bathroom walls so that you are stabilized and can reach the areas you need to wipe in order to clean your bottom. Then, as usual brace yourself against a wall to secure a diaper on. I would also highly suggest wearing a premium diaper along the lines of a Bambino Diaper…that sort of premium. It will allow more wettings and provides more of a cushion and barrier between your bottom and the outside which also helps to contain the smell.

Some of these are obvious tips but some aren’t, so hopefully these tips help you next time you decide to wear a diaper on an airplane and need to change. If you have any other tips please do share them as I am just basing this off my personal experiences and what I have done.

Exercise is an important part of maintaining good physical and mental health. For people with incontinence or that wear diapers for any other purpose should be able to exercise while still wearing protection. I am a big supporter of exercise and I exercise constantly. For me, I have successfully been able to find intuitive ways of exercising whether it is running, biking, yoga, or any other exercise while wearing diapers. I will share my tips and the ways I go about wearing diapers while exercising.

First, the most important thing I would say in wearing diapers during exercise is the clothing you choose. I almost always wear spandex pants or compression shorts with my diapers. The tightness of the spandex pants or compression shorts minimizes the bulk of the diaper while also keeping the crinkle factor to a minimum during exercise. These spandex and compression shorts are typically good at getting rid of moisture as well so that will help in regards to the sweating from the diaper. For girls, wearing spandex pants or compression shorts is not too big of a deal but guys may be timid about wearing such tight clothing. If you are timid about wearing tight clothing such as spandex pants or compression shorts, then I would suggest buying shorts that come with a built in liner. This will at least provide some sort of compression while also providing a little bit of moisture protection. Men or women who want to wear diapers while biking though probably won’t find it a problem wearing tight clothes as that is the standard type of clothing most bikers wear and you will not feel out of place wearing spandex clothing whether you are a man or woman.

Second, use a petroleum jelly or friction protector in the groin area where the diaper can rub against your skin. The repetitive motion while exercising is a breeding ground for creating diaper rash so make sure to use a lot of protection in regards to petroleum jelly or something to reduce the friction where the diaper rubs against the skin.

Third, wear disposable plastic diapers and not cloth. Cloth diapers will actually make you hotter and have a higher chance of giving you a friction rash than the smooth plastic diaper. So, go with a plastic disposable diaper when exercising.

Fourth, use baby powder in your diaper in order to reduce moisture collection and keeping your lower body cool. Baby powder or its equivalents are good for keeping moisture to a minimum within the diaper and can also help to promote coolness in your lower body.

Finally, I always promote proper hydration during exercise and so that is going to be my final point. Wearing a diaper during exercise increases your sweating naturally so you are going to lose more water through sweat. So, make sure you hydrate properly so that you do not become dehydrated during exercise. Also proper hydration can have an effect on your performance.

Wearing diapers during exercise is actually quite doable with taking the necessary steps to protecting your skin and minimizing the “bulk” factor of the diaper. That is why I highly suggest the compression pants or shorts to minimize the bulk and make the diaper “thinner” in a sense by compressing it. You will then still be able to gain the protection you need from the diaper while also being able to engage in exercise. Don’t let incontinence or the fact that wearing a diaper discourage you from getting exercise. Just take the necessary precautions and my tips to help you. Just let me know if I left something out or you want to know any additional tips that I may have left out.

This weekend (Friday – Sunday) if you live in the United States is tax-free weekend. If you live in certain states then you are entitled to tax free on certain items. Here is the complete list of states that offer tax free weekend/week: LIST. This is an important time for shoppers like me. You can save a ton of money if you buy certain items. It is mainly geared towards the whole “back to school crowd” but it encompasses tons of items that everyday people use. One of which is ADULT DIAPERS! So, for those of you wanting to stock up or replenish your adult diaper stock then this weekend may be the time to buy those adult diapers at the local stores that you want. It can save you big dollars especially if you buy a bunch of them.

I personally buy Bambino Diapers mainly but I will admit I have a few Depend packages for when I may wear spandex shorts or leggings and I just feel like wearing a little bit thinner diaper if it is really hot that day. So, even if you are a premium diaper fan – you can still have a small stock of lower-level adult diaper brands such as Depends and Tena for backup purposes. So, go out and take advantage of the tax-free weekend and save some money on adult diapers. Also on the list is baby diapers so if you are that small and can git into them then feel free to buy some of those too! If you go HERE it has a nice little summary of a lot of the items that are and aren’t available for tax free weekend. I know I am going to do a little shopping for some clothes and get some more office supply type stuff but I am probably going to get a package or two of Depends just to have them for a rainy day when I absolutely need a thinner diaper on the rare occasion.

One of the biggest obstacles people have is telling others they either enjoy wearing diapers or have to wear diapers. Both, in my opinion should be approached in the same way and in the same context. Many people ask me “what do I say” and “how I should say it”. The first thing I tell them is to be confident and don’t come across if you are doing something wrong because then that just is a bad start. So, be confident and don’t come across to the person as if you had just robbed a store or something.

Second, never just tell the person flat out that you enjoy and love wearing diapers. Don’t put it like that. Whether you you need diapers or enjoy them – the conversation should start out in the context of being for a medical issue. So, basically if you don’t need them then you will be telling a minor fib or slight exaggeration. This may come across as morally wrong to a few people and I understand that but it is also morally wrong for others to judge you. Anyways, just say something along the lines of “I have a minor medical issue that requires me to wear a diaper at certain points of the day for added protection and it provides a sense of security for me”…obviously this statement needs to be tailored and “flowered” up to the person you are talking to but that is a good base to use. Don’t come across like some obsessive and crazy person that just loves diapers with no reason other than it feels good because 9 out of 10 times the person will associate it immediately in negative light. You want to provide the justification and reasons up front so that they do not assume and make their own conclusions. You start out slow with the person and ease them into the explanation. Don’t say “I love diapers because they make me feel good” – that will probably not get you too far in many cases. Come off as nervous but confident and make sure that you tell the person that you trust them and think a lot of them to share something like this with them. It makes that person feel responsible and almost at first proud that someone can trust them…it puts the ball in their court rather than yours.

The main thing I tell people is to have your reasons and justifications laid out up front and to make sure those reasons are not just that you like them. Start out with that it originated from a medical issue and then go from there. Use words like “security”, “comfort”, “de-stress”, and “calms me down” because these words are neutral and non-aggressive words that will make what you are telling them easier and put it in a more positive light. A lot of what you say and how you say it has to be tailored and catered to that person though based on what type of person they are.

Note: If you are truly interested in coming out or telling someone then I will and am open to help walk you through it. I have a lot of experience with it. But, don’t contact me for help if you are not going to do it and aren’t serious about it. I am more than willing to take the time to help you but just make sure you are serious about it.

Wearing a diaper in public can truly be a terrifying and stressful situation at first. I know because I was forced to get used to it from a young age. Let me tell you that there are certain tricks that I have learned to tell myself that have really simplified the habituation process of getting use to wearing a diaper in public. Overcoming that fear and stress of the various things you worry about which may range from everything of “I might get caught” to “what if I wet or mess my diaper and someone notices”. These things can all be dealt with as long as you sit back and think about the possible situations, prepare yourself for them and mentally handle yourself appropriately. Here are my keys mentally with wearing a diaper in public:

Be Confident: You have to be confident when it comes to wearing a diaper in public. If you give off signs that you are uncomfortable or doing something ’strange’ then others pick up on that. If you are wearing a diaper and carry yourself like its nothing and just normal than others will pick up on that as well. People will most likely associate it with a medical condition and it will completely be looked over and not a big deal.

You Will Never See Them Again: This is a trick that has helped me out immensely. Ok, so someone happens to spot you wearing a diaper…honestly, what is the likelihood of you ever meeting or seeing that person again? So, what is the worry? You have no relation to them, no ties or anything of that regard so what is the big deal? I recognize that to an extent if you are truly trying to hide it from a certain person (aka: parent) then use common sense in regards to wearing a diaper and what not.

Be Prepared with Supplies: Being prepared and having all your supplies ready for if something were to happen while wearing your diaper out in public will really help you better relax. For example, if you poop your diaper in public then you want to make sure you have an extra diaper, baby powder, plenty of wipes, and just in case a extra set of clothes in case the smell gets into your clothes for some reason. This can all be mitigated by wearing plastic pants which really helps cut down on the smell of a poopy diaper. But, being prepared with supplies is key.

Have a Plan: Formulating a plan before going out in your head will make you not only more comforted but also more confident. If you poop your diaper here, or wet your diaper there, or if someone you know comes up to you…these are all important aspects to take into consideration. But, if you address these situations beforehand and know how to react and what to do then it reduces down a lot on the worries and stresses.

These are some of my keys that I learned from and truly helped me get accommodated with not caring about another person seeing my diaper and what not. Obviously, it doesn’t come over night but with practice and keeping these keys in mind they can really help you get use to wearing diapers in public not only safely but more comfortably.
