I wanted to follow up on my previous post “The Reality of Incontinence” and add some additional thoughts. If you haven’t read my previous post (i.e. Part I), please go read that first.

Being incontinent isn’t as bad as I made it out to be. Obviously, it does have its downfalls but that isn’t to say its impossible to make a difficult situation an easy and sometimes enjoyable situation. That is precisely what I have done my entire life. I accepted the reality of my incontinence and turned that situation into a positive. That is what I would tell people newly diagnosed with incontinence or have had incontinence for a long time. You have to accept the reality and find ways to manage it and enjoy it, otherwise you are going to go through every day dreading your incontinence.

This is one reason why in the beginning and now I have always chosen to go with diapers. Besides there not being another way to really manage both urinary and bowel incontinence, using a catheter to me seems unattractive, uncomfortable, and a huge pain. I know some people use them but they just aren’t for me. Plus, bowel and urinary incontinence cannot both be controlled by a catheter so its just easier to go with one thing, a diaper. Diapers to me have never been that big of a deal. I mean think about it. What person is going to make fun of you if they know you have to wear diapers for a medical condition? If there is a person that does that, well then you probably don’t need to associate with them and they are most likely super insecure.

Incontinence has its challenges but with anything, they can be overcome. You have to plan how you are going to carry extra diapers for diaper changes, changing pad if needed, plastic pants, etc. No matter where you go! Out with girlfriends…but only want to carry a small purse…probably not going to happen because a diaper would not fit or take up almost the whole purse. Thus, many times I am stuck lugging around a huge purse…but hey, there are some super fashionable purses out there that are big…Dooney and Bourke, Coach, what what! Haha.

Its so funny to read about the people in the ABDL community and even in the incontinence community online. I feel like I am so different than everyone out there. Like, honestly, if you saw me in real life – you would probably think I am the furthest person from wearing a diaper or being incontinent. Think…True Religion jeans or Sevens, mixed with some Abercrombie, Splendid, or Michael Stars tops and Dooney and Bourke bag. I know to most people looking at me that would seem so far-fetched that someone like that wears diapers…and believe me, you can tell by the reaction of some people when they find out. Its not so much a “Eww” reaction but more like a “wow, I would not have guessed that”. I still to do this day have never really had a negative reaction to my diapers probably since high school…but come on, its high school.

But, I will use myself as the perfect example. You wouldn’t think I would be incontinent and wear diapers…that is because I made the best of my situation, still maintain a social life, I am happy, satisfied, etc. You take what life gives you and you make the best of it. If life throws you incontinence, well then you wear your diapers proudly and happily

I have been living with incontinence my entire life so incontinence is not really a second thought to me. But, this does not mean that incontinence is all peachy. The reality of incontinence is that it can be quite a heavy burden and inconvenience if you do not have patience and persistence. Incontinence can be sudden or a gradual onset and how you deal with either will define your experience with incontinence. In the next few paragraphs I will attempt to describe not only the reality of dealing with incontinence but also things that can make the transition to dealing with incontinence easier and smoother.

Incontinence from birth is easier to deal with because its all you know and you do not anything different than dealing with incontinence. You were/are most likely using some sort of protection for a long time so its not a big deal. But, if you did not grow up with incontinence then coming to terms with the reality of it can be difficult. As much as many people in the ABDL community would like to be incontinent so they can use diapers 24/7, they make not end up liking the reality of it. Many people can pretend to be incontinent and wear diapers 24/7, but in those “certain” situations they may not want to wear a diaper or they may not want to mess or wet in a certain situation they are in. Situations that make people nervous such as office environment, parties, get-togethers with friends, dates, etc. These situations a lot of times are avoided by people who “pretend” to wear diapers 24/7 because they can cause issues in multiple ways. But, with incontinence, there is no way out of it – you are wearing a diaper or some sort of protection and that is that. So, if you are scared to mess in a diaper possibly at work, then incontinence is probably going to be difficult for you to come to terms with.

I am naturally a person who does not care what others think to some degree but that does not mean I am not respectful or smart about it. Dealing with incontinence and wearing diapers in the workplace can be handled appropriately and not in some flamboyantly obvious way.

Incontinence does not wait until you are away from your friends or co-workers to cause to you mess or wet. Incontinence does not give you the luxury of controlling how fast or how much you urinate or mess. It just comes and whatever it is, it is. You deal with the ramifications of it being too much too quick as it happens. This is precisely the reason why I choose more quality adult diapers because in the end, you cannot predict whether you are going to go a lot or a little.

It may seem like a neat idea to be totally helpless and to wet or mess diapers uncontrollably to some but let me tell you, a lot of situations arise where it is not so “neat”. I will give you a perfect example that happened to me a few years ago. I went out to lunch with some new girlfriends I had met in class in college. We first went shopping and then hit up some deli style restaurant. None of these girls knew about my incontinence or diapers as I had not really come to that point of telling them. So, I had on at the time an Attends with Waistband diaper (this was before Bambino Diapers came along) and no booster. Well, I had for breakfeast some bran flakes with strawberries in it which ended up being the perfect storm for me. Needless to say, I ended up completely messing in my diaper at lunch and I hadn’t turned blushed or been emberrassed in a long time but I was super emberrassed. Obviously, they smelled it and by my reaction and what not could tell that something had happened. To make a long long long long story short, I had to spill the beans right there at the table about my incontinence, diapers, etc all while sitting in a messed diaper…you want to talk about humiliating. Not exactly the situation I envisioned telling them. One of them was actually totally weirded out obviously (eventually came to terms and didn’t care) but the other two girls really were quite sympathetic and felt bad they had even shown a reaction to the smell of the diaper. None of them disbanded me as a friend or anything, which I was so worried might happen. But, fortunately, I handled it the best I could and thought on my feet.

I have countless stories similar to this that just happen and you can’t help it. You learn to think on your feet quickly and react quickly that is for sure. But, the reality of incontinence is that you have to have patience with yourself as become accustomed to a change in lifestyle. Its not all peaches and cream with incontinence so be sure to keep that in mind next time you think about wanting to become incontinent. Obviously, some of you I am sure fantasize about that exact situation I was just in, but let me tell you, being THAT person is not a fantasy you want to live…it was quite humiliating at first.

The competition in the adult diaper industry is more competitive than ever. Competition could not be more noticeable in the adult diaper industry as it is in the adult baby and diaper lover community where each diaper is inspected, criticized, praised, and analyzed to every little detail. Sometimes these analyzations can lead to over analyzing which can cause some major issues in similar/parallel reviews of adult diapers. The big guns in the adult diaper industry such as Secure Personal Care, Bambino Diapers, Abena, Molicare, and Attends try to attract certain certain cliques of the adult diaper users.

Bambino Diapers

Abena X-Plus

Secure X-Plus

ABUniverse Diapers

Unfortunately, many of the adult diaper manufacturers have started manufacturing their diapers without the ABDL community in mind leaving only a very select few of good adult diapers for the ABDL community to use and even the incontinence community. Attends was once an amazingly absorbent diaper that was soft, thick, and comfortable. Now, they rank up there with depends absorbency (poor) and their comfort is also poor in comparison to what it used to be. More and more adult diaper manufacturers are competing for the “quietness” factor by switching their adult diapers to cloth like outer coverings. This is much to the dismay of adult babies and diaper lovers as many of them like that plastic outer covering which is actually more expensive to manufacture than cloth (cloth is cheaper to manufacture). Even brands like Molicare have created the “breathable” adult diapers which essentially has less padding on the wings which means less absorption unfortunately. What all this points to is a competitiveness for incontinence users that HAVE TO wear diapers rather than those who enjoy the feel of an adult diaper. After all the incontinence community is much larger than the adult baby and diaper lover community.

The competition within the adult baby and diaper lover community for adult diapers is heating up. The main competitors that have come forward consist of:

While there are other major brands such as Molicare, Tranquility, and Attends…they are not actively competing for anywhere remotely the stock of popularity within the ABDL community. Each diaper manufacturer has some huge strengths and some weaknesses…some more glaring than others but nonetheless, they are each competing in some form for popularity. Here are some strengths of each company:

Bambino Diapers: Known to be the most absorbent adult diaper on the market as well as the softest inner-lining. Phenomenal customer support. Very focused on their reputation and producing flawless diapers. Using cutting-edge materials to add better absorbency, comfort, and softness. VERY focused towards providing products for the ABDL community.

Abena X-Plus: Known as one of thickest adult diapers because of the added fluff they add to their diapers. Great absorbency. Good customer support. Products readily available in stores. Serious tape problems is their only downside. Their tapes are known for not staying on and popping off easily.

Secure X-Plus: Similar to the Bambino Diapers features in many aspects. Super high absorbency, almost as absorbent as bambino diapers. Soft and comfortable. Geared towards providing the best adult diapers specifically to the incontinence community.

ABUniverse (Diapers and Products): Many products geared towards the ABDL community. Trying to create more products on a regular basis. Customer support problems. Good absorbency. Very focused towards the ABDL community with providing a lot of products the ABDL community. Shipping delays can sometimes be an issue with them depending on the time. Prices extremely high. But, you have to give them credit because they are trying to support the ABDL community even if their products are not on the same level as the other companies/products.

Competition is good and should be welcomed because it only makes the companies try to produce better and better products. Its unfortunate that there are really only a few big guns in the adult diaper industry that gear towards the ABDL community. The four companies listed above seem pretty geared towards sticking with plastic-backed diapers (a main staple in the ABDL community) which is a lot more than many other diaper companies can say as they have switched to cloth or are using cheaper materials. I would say Bambino Diapers is the front runner as far as the best adult diaper on the market in regards to features, absorbency, and technology used in their adult diapers…but Abena and Secure are close behind. ABUniverse is competing well especially with their new Cushy diaper but their problem is they don’t have the same absorbency (less absorbent) as the other diaper companies and their price is still too high as well as features are lacking from ABUniverse products. But, hopefully as time grows each company continues to get better and furthers the adult diaper competitiveness in both the incontinence and ABDL market.

So, I have been catching some flak from a few people about my ABUniverse diaper prices rant. First, all I want you to do is first look at the chart below…granted it only includes Bambino and Abena in comparing to the ABU Cushie diaper. I only included Bambino and Abena on this one just because I consider those two adult diapers to be the top echelon of adult diapers in regards to absorbency and features. I will post a full comparison chart eventually when I am done to help some people but hopefully this clears up at least part my concern for some of you. Its great what they are doing to contribute to the community and I do appreciate it – but their prices are just concerning to the people who don’t have that sort of money. Here is the Chart (click to enlarge):

Premium Diaper Prices

 ◄ Back

 Next ►

Picture 1 of 1

Now, take note that while I think the ABU Cushie diaper is a great addition to the ABDL community – its price is particularly high especially considering it lacks some of the features the other two premium diapers have. I also didn’t include minor things that an everyday wearer notices and takes note of in between the diapers ONLY because I have not tried a ABU Cushie even though they are suppose to be pretty much identical to the Super Dry Kids diaper (just a diff. look). And, if they are, there are some glaring differences there as well that you would notice only by wearing it.

I am only pointing out a PRICE discrepancy that is quite notable between the adult diapers that makes people wonder…I am not questioning anything else…I appreciate their contribution to the ABDL community as any contribution really is a good one in this day and age.

Once again, choosing an adult diaper comes down to a multitude of things which I have noted before and everyone has their budget, their likes, dislikes, comfort level, body type, etc. My budget is not that high especially considering I think both the Bambino diaper and Abena are superior to the ABUniverse diapers and many others will agree…but again, some won’t. My opinion. Hope this at least help visualize the diaper prices for some of you.

An adult diaper is amazingly complex product but yet looks so simple on the outside. The idea of an adult diaper is so simple, a piece of plastic with padding in it to contain fluids and solid matter. When you describe it like that, an adult diaper seems so simple. But, the making of an adult diaper is complex and takes into consideration a lot of factors. So many factors go into making an adult diaper including design, appearance, absorbency, material used, features, and cost. There is a balancing act that must be played with creating adult diapers because manufacturers don’t want to create a super everything diaper that is going to cost butt-loads of money so that only a few select people buy it…that would not be profitable nor beneficial to the masses.

For example, an adult diaper manufacturer could create a super absorbent diaper by purely using polymer which absorbs many times more than pulp/fluff in an adult diaper. But, this would do two things:

Make the cost of the diaper skyrocket because polymer is a lot more expensive than pulp.

For ABDLs, using purely polymer would cause the diaper to be a lot thinner if it did not contain any pulp at all.

So, an adult diaper manufacturer has a balancing act to play. Depending on what they are aiming for, they may add more or less polymer depending on the absorbency they are going for. This exact situation can be seen in the adult diaper industry today, especially in the adult baby and diaper lover world.

The materials used to make adult diapers is extremely important in the diaper manufacturing process. Everything from the type of plastic to the woven inner-lining of the diaper. There are many different types of plastic outer coverings and the one you choose is important. Some plastics have big pores and are more susceptible to leaking or feeling clammy because moisture from wetting the diaper seeps into the plastic outer coating. The inner-lining of an adult diaper is probably a seemingly “taken for granted” part of the diaper. But, if you were to compare certain adult diapers side by side you would be able to feel and immense difference in softness of the inner lining (inside) between them. Bambino Diapers are famous for probably having the softest inner-lining on the market because they have a specially patented blend that makes the inner lining very soft. So, if you compare for example, a Bambino Diaper’s inner lining to an Attends – you can definitely tell the difference in the diaper’s softness of the inner-lining.

Cost is one of the biggest factors that goes into creating adult diapers. Keeping the diaper affordable but with the best features, absorbency, and materials used can prove quite a complex process. Plus, the diaper provider/manufacturer’s “profitability factor” must be taken into account. Obviously, each diaper sold is earning a profit for a diaper company, that amount earned is determined by the diaper company. Obviously, some companies are going to be more apt to make a “quick buck” by jacking up their prices. A person can easily determine the “greed factor” of a company by comparing that companies products with competitor’s prices in conjunction with features. Below, is a PRIME example of this:

The premium adult diapers include Bambino Diapers, Abena X-Plus, Secure X-Plus, Molicare and some would say the ABUniverse Diaper. If you were to shop around for prices of EACH of these diapers you would notice a similarity somewhat (between a few cents to 10-20 cents per diaper) between the Bambino, Abena, Secure, and Molicare; BUT, there is an outlier and its strange. The ABUniverse diaper costs around $2.25 PER DIAPER (ABU Cushie) while the Bambino is $1.36 PER DIAPER, Abena is $1.37 PER DIAPER, Secure is $1.36 PER DIAPER, and Molicare ranges from $1.40 to $1.57 PER DIAPER (depending on which store). This is NOT a knock against the ABUniverse diaper but just merely pointing out a huge discrepancy in price of their diaper compared to the rest of the premium adult diaper market.

To further the argument above, the ABUniverse Cushie diaper does NOT have any insane features that would possibly cause the price to be jacked up so high. Technically, the ABUniverse diaper is less absorbent than the Abena, Molicare, Bambino and Secure adult diapers. The materials are of higher quality in all the other diapers than ABUniverse. The only thing different is the look/design. The pure design itself should not cause such a huge price discrepancy. The only thing to conclude from this is that ABUniverse is more interested in making a higher profit by charging an outrageous price for technically an inferior diaper to its competitors in the premium diaper market. For those with lots of money and really just want the looks, the ABUniverse diaper might be up your alley, but I know I cannot afford to shell out that sort of money when I can get better absorbency, features, and comfort in a Bambino, Abena, Secure, or Molicare diaper.

This article is not meant to bash any diaper but rather point out pure facts and educate the ABDL community and anyone else looking to purchase adult diapers. Money is always tight now a days for many people, including myself, and I am trying to get the best bang for my buck. Much of the adult baby and diaper lover community does not think about these things, which you don’t have to, but I just wanted to provide a little tidbit of information that I take into consideration when purchasing my adult diapers (which is quite often). Money does not grow on trees for me, so I will take a cheaper price adult diaper with better absorbency, features, and material over a super expensive diaper that only has a different look. But, then again, everyone is different and after something different.

The ABDL world is a complicated one and consists of people from all walks of life. Everyone from doctors, lawyers, construction workers, teachers, and the list goes on and on. I for one look at the adult baby and diaper lover world as an extremely unique community that is completely different than any other community. There is not really a community out there that enjoys doing things that are similar to the ABDL world that is harmless in its purest form but yet can bring so much joy. But, this world of ABDLs has in my mind given themselves a bad name in many aspects and really has brought more harm than good to the community.

The ABDL world is first looked at in a negative light and associated with kids unfortunately. An outsider looking in automatically is going to associate diapers with kids and while this is unfortunate, it is understandable. What is not understandable and unacceptable in my mind is those people who enhance this image by engaging in activities that will only further this view. While I understand there are always bad apples in any group, I don’t think it does us justice when there are a whole lot of “borderline” apples that engage in forums and chat alongside or with people that are under the age of 18. I think this is wrong and however innocent it may be in many cases, it is not in many other cases. Unfortunately sites such as ADISC, while providing a decent community, is filled with underage kids as well as teenbabies and adult diaper lovers and babies. This setup is a breeding ground for disaster but also is not a good look for the ABDL community. The site basically is an invitation to anyone with a computer and internet connection to come “innoncently” talk to underage people about diapers…this in my mind is wrong and breeds negativity. There are many “good” people at places like ADISC but there are also many sickos, perverts, and the likes that harbor around this community because they know what it is and how to bend the rules to satisfy whatever need they want. That is why I highly disapprove of sites like ADISC and the likes of them and feel they really are a bad apple in the ABDL community.

Sites such as DailyDiapers are good wholesome communities that is specifically for ADULT babies and diaper lovers over the age of 18. They do not invite nor set up specific threads for underage people. DailyDiapers as a whole is great forum that has a lot of engaging people that are 95% of the age of 18 which is how its suppose to be!

The outside world does not understand what goes on in the ABDL community as well as someone like me or you. Which is precisely why the ABDL community as a whole should not give them any reason to misunderstand or interpret our community as what it is not. I know one thing is for sure and that is when I have kids one day, whether they wear diapers or not, I will never approve of them conversing in a chat room that contains adults when they are under the age of 18. I think it leaves a lot of open doors and is just wrong. The ABDL world is an ADULT world and while there are people under the age of 18 that are into the diaper thing – that area of things should not be promoted online in such a public chatroom open to anyone wanting to easily lie about their age to gain access to children. This is wrong.

I have always been a big supporter of the adult baby and diaper lover community and always will be. The first step in presenting ourselves to the outside world is to clean up the mess within our own “ranks” that does not give outsiders excuses to accuse the ABDL community as a whole of wrongdoings. While, this is no easy task, I think it is a focal point that should not be taken lightly if the ABDL community ever wants to take another step in acceptance on any level within the outside world.

This is just my two cents on the situation and while sites like ADISC are well moderated communities and active – I think ADISC presents a huge problem and are a sore eye for the ABDL community as a whole when they are actively harboring people that are under the age of 18 in their forums. If they would gear their site to over the age of 18 then their site would be fantastic but that is not the case and unfortunately I think it is just one of the many examples of the barriers and problems for the adult baby and diaper lover community of every getting past that horrible stigma to the public.

NOTE: While I understand people’s views may differ I do not want “trash” comments and I will not allow garbage and immature comments such as this which I just received:

“So you want over 18 sites where people can post hairy crotch shots or their miniature d*cks, or pick up chicks for diaper sex, or provide detailed instructions on how to make yourself incontinent so you’ll be pissing yourself happily ever after without control. I’m sure that is what this world needs!” (he also forgot to leave a fake email so some nice easy Google searches and I have a photo of him from a profile)

I thought about posting his photo just to prove a point but I won’t stoop to that level…Please refrain from immature comments AS WELL AS comments that you simply base off of here-say rather than fact.

Its a well written article basically discussing incontinence and how people should be more comfortable talking about it with those they are close to whether it is about themselves or about the other person. The topic should not be so “secretive” basically is what the article is saying. Which I definitely agree with because incontinence is such a common disorder that why make it an uncomfortable topic that causes stress and adds stress to most people’s lives? People have enough worries and stress to deal with then having to worry about hiding incontinence from their close ones. It should be easier to discuss with those that are close to you so they along with you can come up with the best options to suit your needs based on price and need.

I just wanted to share an article with everyone, especially those that are truly incontinent, to just reinforce the popularity in the population that are incontinent and are just like you. Hope the article helps shed some light on an important issue to many.

I wanted to link to an article that I thought represented the thought of adult diapers to many others around the world and the notion of how they are not such a “taboo” thing. Here is the link: Dongfang Billy Wears Adult Diapers . It is just a article about a famous artist that was diagnosed with leukemia and as a PRECAUTION was instructed by doctors to wear adult diapers. Honestly, how many doctors around here or much less people would be willing to wear an adult diaper out of precaution. Most people in the US won’t consider wearing an adult diaper unless they are practically leaking feces out of themselves or wetting uncontrollably everyday.

It goes to show that even someone who is in the public eye a lot is not afraid to let others know that he is wearing diapers. Yes, it is for medical reasons but the notion of how ‘free’ and ‘open’ he is about it goes to show the mindset of people in places like Asia. I know I am making a huge generalization here but when do you see articles like this in the USA news unless its riddled with negativity or involving some sort of crime.

He also is continuing to teach a fitness class even though he has to wear a diaper for it. And his reason…it will make him exercise basically. There is not even a mention of emberassment there. Most people if they have to wear a diaper will hide that diaper like they are hiding gold. The only way this wearing of diapers is going to stop being an extreme taboo is if the people who must wear diapers and who enjoy wearing diapers act like it is not a big deal – as well as not blatantly doing stupid acts such as robbing a store wearing a diaper (gives us all a bad name). Just thought the article was quite interesting and thought I would share incase you hadn’t heard.

Link Again to the Article: Dongfang Billy Wears Adult Diapers

I read an article recently from an actual writer from Men’s Health basically saying that wearing diapers is more practical and actually safer way to go about things. I thought it was neat that the writer was actually from Men’s Health magazine. He wears himself and claims that if your looking for something ‘kinky’ then that is not what he is referring to. He merely states that it is purely more economical and easier and more comfortable than underwear. But, don’t let me tell his story for him. Go to the article below and read the article yourself! Very interesting.
